First, upgrade the firmware of Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT (I use DDWRT v24.mini_generic).
For more details how to upgrade, can be read in my article here.

The next step we started to get into http://192.168.1.1
username: root
password: admin

Click the “Wireless” on the menu at the top row.
Change the configuration as below:

Wireless Mode                               :  Client Bridge
Wireless Network  Mode           :  Mixed
Wireless network name (ssid) : (ssid of your Access Point)
Network Configuration              :  Bridged

Make sure that the configuration of the above is correct, and then click “save settings”.

The next step we go to menu “SERVICES”.
Here we must change the configuration of DNSMasq to “Disable” then “Save Settings”.

Next, go to menu “ADMINISTRATION”.
Here we must change the Routing Configuration to “Disable” then “Save Settings”.

One more thing, If the Access Point to enable wireless security function, then the Linksys WRT-54-Gl as a client bridge must also adapt them to perform the same configuration. Go to the menu “WIRELESS” and get in on the sub-menu “Wireless-Security”, do the configuration in accordance with the existing configuration on the Access Point. Here required considerable knowledge from you about the Access Point and all its functions. And I’m sure you are quite proficient.

Up here, the configuration of the Linksys WRT-54-GL as a client bridge with DD-WRT is completed.

To ensure that the Linksys WRT-54-GL has been working correctly, try to get back on the menu above, Click the STATUS. On the “Wireless” sub-menu, scroll down, on the “Wireless nodes” will appear in the list, such as the Access Point mac address destination.
If you have not looked too, try clicking “Side Survey”, until the Access Point in question and click the “Joint” at its right end.

Or maybe necessary to “reboot” on the Linksys WRT-54-GL
or there could be something wrong with the configuration above.

Catatan saya tentang flashing Linksys WRT54GL versi 1.1 dengan  DD-WRT open source firmware dd-wrt. v24-12548_NEWD_mini. Sebelum flashing dilakukan, pastikan WRT54GL Anda adalah versi 1.1. , Anda bisa membedakan mana versi yang Anda miliki dengan memeriksa nomor seri. Nomor seri terletak di stiker bawah router. Nomor seri awalan CL7B  adalah  versi 1.1 dan CL7A adalah versi 1.0.

Satu hal lagi yang terpenting adalah untuk mematikan firewall dan software anti-virus selama proses ini. untuk memastikan saja supaya tidak ada yang mengganggu proses flash firmware yang sedang berlangsung. Sebuah interupsi yang disebabkan oleh kerja firewall atau software anti virus, dapat menyebabkan kegagalan proses flash firmware.

Aku hampir lupa untuk mengingatkan bahwa Anda harus melakukan flash hanya melalui kabel Ethernet menggunakan http standar (tidak https). Jangan lakukan ini secara nirkabel (wi-fi), sebaknya,untuk sementara menonaktifkan adaptor nirkabel(wi-fi) pada komputer Anda.

Pasang Ethernet kabel biru (Cat5/RJ45) bawa-an router Anda ke Network Interface Card (NIC) di bagian belakang komputer Anda dan masuk ke salah satu port berlabel 1, 2, 3, atau 4. “Internet” port pada router Anda harus terhubung ke sumber broadband Anda (misalnya, kabel atau modem DSL).

Langkah terakhir yang harus dilakukan sebelum meng-upload firmware baru, reset router Linksys anda ke “Factory default“.
Ada 2 cara untuk melakukan reset :

• Memilih tombol reset dalam antarmuka web
• Menekan tombol reset di bagian belakang route selama 30 detik.

Untuk me-reset router ke firmware default, pergi ke alamat IP internal router anda (Biasanya (default) 192.168.1.1) dan login dengan user name dan password yang Anda setup saat Anda pertama kali diinstal router (jika Anda tidak ingat, gunakan metode reset button). Setelah login, pergi ke tab “Administration” dan “Default Factory“ sub-tab. Pilih “Yes“ tombol radio di samping “Restore Factory” kemudian pilih “Save settings”.

Jika reset berhasil, Anda akan melihat halaman yang mengatakan “Settings are successful. You will be returned to the previous page after several seconds.”

Sekarang kita dapat memulai proses untuk melakukan upgrade firmware. Untuk meng-upload firmware, arahkan ke “Firmware Upgrade” sub-tab di bawah tab “Administration”. Pada halaman ini, pilih “Browse” untuk pergi ke tempat di mana Anda menyimpan file “dd-wrt. v24- 12548_NEWD_mini”. Selama proses upload firmware dari komputer ke router, Jangan melakukan hal-2 yang menyebabkan jalannya proses terganggu, jangan mematikan atau mengiterupsi kerja router, sebab hal ini akan menyebabkan kerusakan fatal pada router.

Jika semua berjalan sebagaimana yang diharapkan, Anda akan disambut oleh sebuah layar yang mengatakan “Upgrade is successfull”. Selanjutnya, klik tombol “continue”.

Berikutnya, Anda akan melihat sebuah prompt untuk login ke interface DD-WRT baru. Nama pengguna defaultnya adalah “root” dan password default adalah “admin”.
